Appledore has a number of family and pet friendly pubs which offer excellent food. In addition there are two fish and chip shops, a pizza restaurant, which also offers a takeaway service, a tea room, coffee shop, small supermarket and delicatessen.There are a number of large supermarkets within a ten minute drive.

There are a number of arts and craft shops throughout the village which sell a wide range of unique items.

There are a wide range of activities which you can do locally. These include crabbing from the Quay, walking or cycling the Tarka trail, numerous local walks, kayaking or surfing at Skern Lodge or one of the other activity centres. Golf, and tennis facilities are also available locally.

You can catch the ferry to Instow which has a small beach or visit Northam Burrows or Westward Ho where you will find beaches with large expanses of sand (10 minute drive). 

There are numerous attractions for the family e.g The Big Sheep, which are very close to Appledore. You will find brochures on these attractions at the cottage as well as books on walks in Devon.
